There are loads of different ways to do a smoky eye - my makeup artist friend Nicole shows us her version - perfect for New Year's parties...

You can adapt it and make it your own for your Christmas party look. The smoky eye can be done in so many different shades - from browns, greens and blacks even to purples. Today we’re doing blue.

1. Start with a clean eye before or after foundation

If you’re new at this, or slightly heavy handed, apply your foundation after.

2. Use a cream base

We used Bobbi Brown Pink Oyster (available at Edgars) over the whole eyelid.

3. Use a highlighter next

Apply under the brow bone to emphasise it and then use in corner of eyes to “open them up”. We Used Dr Hauschke Solo 09. We love it as it’s all natural and organic.

4. Apply your blue shadow

We’ve used Inglot 10SR. Apply it with your finger to the ball of the eye, ending on the crease, making sure it’s blended well.

5. Apply a black or dark blue to the outer corner of the eye

Apply it in a C-shape, again blending well. We’ve used Smashbox Smoke Set of 6, Nocturnal. Smashbox is available at Woolworths.

6. Next Nicole lines the eye with Clarins eye pencil 01 noir

Apply along top lashes, dotting in between the lashes and join the dots, blending with your finger or brush, 3/4 of the way in from the outer corner of your eye. Do the same to the bottom lashes about half way from the outer corner of the eye. You could also blend some more of your colour along the lash line if you desire. We love this Clarins pencil as it comes with a blending applicator and sharpener on either end. Don’t use a sharp pencil when applying eye-liner, a more blunt pencil will make application easier.

7. Go over the liner with a little of your dark shadow to fix the liner and create a smudge effect

8. Apply two coats of mascara

We used Clarins Instant Definition Black, available in March.

9. Lastly, if you desire, apply a little glitter liner along the lash line and inner corners of eyes

And voila, our festive season smoky eye. Happy playing! xx
