Steal Zooey's 'New Girl' style

Zooey Deschanel's character in the sitcom New Girl is quirky, eccentric and over the top, but her fashion is fun, bold and bright. Want to copy her look on the show? Here's how...
Watching New Girl is an ongoing lesson in how to mix and match prints and colours, and how to adopt a quirky and fun clothing style that can really make a girl stand out.
If you want to try the look out for yourself, here are some key rules to remember:
Go bright or go home
You almost never see Zooey's character Jess wearing nudes, neutrals or pastels. Rich reds, kelly green, royal blue and other bold colours are the order of the day. For added impact, don a pair of contrasting ballet pumps with your outfit.
Deliberate mis-matching makes for an eye-catching outfit, but limit it to one item, like your shoes or handbag.
It's all about the prints
Don't be afraid of prints - they're still in style and can look charming even when you wear more than one at a time. If you're not quite sure how to mix your prints, play it safe by choosing one item - a blouse, skirt or cardigan - to wear in print. Then make sure the rest of your outfit consists of solid colours.

Skirt it up
Jess almost always appears in a skirt or a dress, making her style a sweet, vintage-inspired and feminine one. The hemline is always decent, above the knee but not obscenely short, and skirts are generally high waisted.
If you're adopting this style yourself you can either go bare legged, or when autumn chill starts to set in, take a leaf out of Jess's book and add some opaque tights (as below).
She also appears in playsuits and shorts occasionally (like these adorable Pacman-print shorts).
Make ballet flats your friends
Almost all of Jess's outfits are completed by a pair of bright ballet pumps. As above, don't be scared to wear ones that don't match, making this girly style a little less cutesy.
