How to: colour block eyes

This is a bold, bright look for summer and is perfect for cocktail parties. Find out how to get the look...
Forget colour blocking your clothes - if you want to make a real impact, pull on your classic little black dress and let this loud makeup look say it all.
Colour blocking for your eyes
This makeup effect is based on the same principles as the classic smoky eye (find out how to do it here), except with bright, complementary colours.
Basically what you'll end up with is a darker colour in the outer corner, highlighted with a lighter colour in the inner corner of the eye.
How to do it:
Decide which colours you want to colour block. I love the peacock blues and greens in the main picture!
Start with your lightest colour, and apply it with a brush to the inner corner of the eye, up to the crease and to the centre of the eyelid. Then take your medium shade and apply it to the middle of the lid out to the outer corner, blending it into the first shade so the colours flow together in the centre.
Finish off with your third, boldest colour by layering it over the outer corner of the eye and along the upper lash line.
Since this is such a high-impact look, make sure you don't overdo it with the rest of your makeup. Keep your lips and cheeks as understated as possible.
