Most companies and work environments have a dress code and unless you’re one of the lucky few with very relaxed rules around what to wear to work, deciding on a work wardrobe can be tricky!

Get the basics right

The 10 following basics will make you look like a sophisticated working woman:

  1. A pair of flat-front black pants
  2. A straight skirt ending just below the knee
  3. A fitted and sleeveless dress
  4. A fine-knit sweater
  5. A cardigan
  6. A shell shirt
  7. A crisp white shirt
  8. A coat or jacket
  9. A pair of black pumps
  10. A black bag

Making what you wear to work versatile

The way to create a perfect corporate wardrobe is to make sure that what you wear to work matches well with other clothes in your wardrobe. For example, the fitted and sleeveless dress can be worn with the cardigan or coat.

Keeping it coordinated

Black, white and neutrals like navy, cream, grey, brown and tan always look smart. These items are classic and are always chic and easy to wear. For example black shoes go well with a black bag, grey pencil skirt and white shirt for a simple style.

Show off your personality

The added advantage is that if neutral pieces form the basis of what you wear to work you can add other elements to show off your personality. Add bright jewellery or a pretty scarf to liven up a boring outfit. Try a leopard-print cardigan over your usual black ensemble or even a red blouse under a cream pantsuit. The opportunities are endless.

Make sure it’s classy

The rule of thumb when deciding what to wear to work is to keep it classy! This applies to makeup too. Keep things pretty, classic and chic and you can’t go wrong.
