No longer is it necessary to cook the perfect steak with a pan. You don't even need an oven or a hot plate. We recently heard about a new technique which allows you to cook steak in your cooler box! It is a method used by expert chefs - they claim that it ensures a perfect steak every time. The technique calls for a cooler box, vacuum sealable zip lock bags, a meat thermometer, and of course herbs and spices in addition to the steaks themselves.
First you should spice the steaks as you want them, and place them in the zip lock bags. It's preferable to keep one steak to one bag so they can cook through.
Second you'll need to heat water to just above the desired cooking temperature of the steak - 60 degrees C will cook a steak to medium-rare and 65 C to medium. You'll then place the heated water in the cooler box.
Once the water is in the box, place the steaks in the bags in the heated water. Make sure that you leave as little air as possible in the bags so the steak receives as much contact with the water as possible. Once all the steaks are in the water, you merely have to wait until the temperature of the water warms its way through to the centre of the steak and thus cooks it. Using this method means that it is impossible to overcook the steak because the meat will never get hotter than the water. To cook a steak through should take a minimum of 45 minutes but it's safe to leave in the water for several hours.
Once steak is cooked through, open the bags and throw the steak onto a hot pan for 1 min a side to achieve that chargrilled effect. And happy eating!
