This week at the movies

Some teriffic (as well as some not so great) movies on the big screen this week...  

Material is a moving, funny, South African movie. Don't go to support it, go to love it!

Having watched Iron Lady recently, I was feeling pretty jaded  movie-wise. Sure Meryl Streep IS brilliant as Margaret Thatcher, BUT, I found the story line to be weak and the pace tedious - to say the least.

So I went to watch Material with trepidation. Material, starring Riaad Moosa as a young Moslem torn between filial duty (running his father's shop) and his calling (comedy). It's a terrific comedy - a moving, funny, well acted South African movie.

Don't go to support it, go to love it and be proud that some South African movies can stand up to the best. It should have received an Oscar nomination or two.

Generations
 

Another thoroughly enjoyable movie was Generations. If you have missed it on the big screen, hire it or download it. George Clooney is terrific and the story is fun.

Another goodie, is Ryan Gosling (remember Crazy, Stupid, Love?) together with George Clooney in the Ideas of March. Add it to your download or rent list. A political drama - very well acted - that moves at a cracking pace.

Say NO to Kevin

Don't touch: We need to talk about Kevin. A truly horrid bloody, nasty movie experience. IF it had a redeeming feature, I don't know about it. I could not face watching it till the end. Life is too short to watch rubbish for too long.
