Recycling bins now at Total Garages

Recycling bins now at Total Garages

I was filling up at my local Total petrol station the other day when I noticed a large recycling centre in the corner - with bins for plastic, paper, glass and cans.  This made me very happy for several reasons:

  1. If all (or many) petrol stations set up recycling centres, there would be places to recycle on almost every corner, making it extremely convenient (many people do not recycle because they don't know where to find the bins and it is out of their way)
  2. Petrol stations are open 24/7 and are relatively safe - therefore you can drop your waste off at any time of the day/night
  3. You can time your drop offs for when you need to fill up your car.
  4. You can easily recycle tin cans and paper that have been lying around in your car or that you have bought at the store.

According to Linda Christensen, the marketing strategy implementation manager, "This recycling initiative is in line with Total’s positive attitude towards conservation and corporate responsibility. We hope this pilot project will encourage more people to adopt the culture of recycling and protecting the environment.”

At the moment the recycling stations are only at a few Total garages in the Gauteng area - here's hoping it catches on quickly. I for one am going to make sure I give Total my business for being an environmentally minded company.
